Meeting Kenny Chesney thanks
to my  GM CARD                       PRICELESS

I must admit that I was just a little nervous about going to this concert all alone.  Naturally, I was starting to lose it driving to the
ferry, for which I had 1:30 PM reservation.  The Puke factor got an early start during the 15-minute ride from my house to the
marina.  It was scary driving my car onto that ship.  You would not believe it.  My car was the first car to go up the ramp on the
ship to the higher level.  I couldn’t see what I was driving on.  Then I had to go down the ramp at the other end, and there was a
guy in the way.  Actually the guy worked on the ship and was directing me.  Luckily I was able to stop the car before I hit him.
Otherwise, this would be a very short review.  It was a nice 75-minute ride across the Long Island Sound to Bridgeport,
Connecticut.  Of course, I slept the whole way.
Debarking at Bridgeport was interesting.  It was  a lot easier than I thought it would be.  Not as nerve racking as embarking was on
the other side.  Everything was fine until I got onto the streets of Bridgeport.  Apparently the whole town is under construction.
The street signs were so confusing.  Eventually, I found my way to I-95N.  Once on I-95, the ride was not bad at all.  The directions
that I had found at the Oakdale’s website were very good and easy to follow.
My friend Renee wasn’t expected for almost 45 minutes. The last time I had any contact with Erin and Katie, they didn’t
know what time they would be there.  So I gave them a quick phone call.  Since I was there so early, I needed to occupy my time
with something.  So, I took a tour of Wallingford.    Besides, I needed gas.  After my short tour and a quick fill up, I headed back to
the Oakdale Theater for another nap.
It was hard trying to sleep at this point.  Eventually, I drifted off a bit.  Then the phone rang, which really scared me.  As the
phone was ringing, I could hear someone laughing.  Renee and her sister parked right next to me.  They didn’t have any problem
finding my car in the parking lot at that point.  It was the only car with New York plates at this time.  This was our first meeting in
person.  We had communicated quite a few times through the internet over the past couple of months.  It was exciting and strange at
the same time to finally meet her.  Renee made a comment about people not looking like what you imagine them to look like.  I
would have to agree. We got along just fine.
Erin and Katie called just as soon as Renee had gotten there.  Those two girls were parked over in the Oakdale staff parking lot.
They were hanging out with some guy named Steve from Sara Evans’ band.  Man do they work quickly.  We never did get to
meet up, unfortunately.  I’m sure they had a great time, though.
Renee, Adele, and I spent some time getting acquainted.  Mostly talking about Kenny, of course.  Plus, we exchanged lots of
different concert stories.   Renee also had a gift to give me.  She made me a barf bag for when I meet Kenny and my nerves goes into
action.  She put a lot of work into it with all her decorations.
When we were ready to enter the Oakdale Theater, we noticed someone walking back towards their car.  They had a camera in
their hand.  For some reason, this spooked us.  We were concerned that they wouldn’t let us in with our cameras.  So were
trying to figure out how to sneak them in.  Adele decided not to try.  I was bringing mine in no matter what.  I had seventh row
seats.  I planned on having good pictures from this show.  Something that I had yet to accomplish.  Anyway, I managed to get in
without anyone seeing my camera.  Thank you.
The GM people were out in full force once more.  They were giving away those limited edition, not to be purchased anywhere, â
€œTour CD’sâ€.  They asked me to fill out an application for a GM Card.  When I mentioned that I already had one, the nice
lady gave me a survey to fill out.  It was a short survey.  They wanted to know what kind of car you currently drove and how old it
was.  They also wanted to know when you planned on buying a new one and what type of car you wanted to buy.  The CD has
two songs by Kenny on it, “She’s Got It Allâ€ and “Back Where I Come Fromâ€.  Plus, one  song each by Sara Evans,
Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Phil Vassar, and Montgomery Gentry.  I guess they still plan on having those guys on the tour at some
point this year.   Wouldn’t that be cool Montgomery Gentry opening for Kenny instead of Sara?
Naturally, when we finally made it inside the lobby, our first stop was to say Hey to Tim and Darryl.  It was a difficult decision
trying to pick which piece of merchandise I wanted next.  Because as y’all know, they don’t have Kenny up on that wall.
Dang it
The next stop was to the 92.5, WWYZ radio station booth.  They were giving away backstage passes to meet Sara Evans and
Kenny Chesney.  Plus, they were doing a front row seat upgrade.  All you had to do was fill out a raffle ticket and drop it in a box.
We listened to see if we won.  We didn’t so we headed to our seats.
After we went our separate ways, I was finally making my way up to my seat.  That is when the lady from GM came out on
stage and announced the lucky winners of the GM Card backstage meet and greet passes. I never made it to my seat.  She called Ally
Miller as one of the winners.  When the lady called my name, I stopped dead in my tracks.  I had to think to myself.  I put my full
name on that survey Alice Miller.  Ally is the name I use at two different Chesney websites.   Ally isn’t on my driver’s
license or any credit cards.  It’s just a nickname my dad gave me.  It was strange.  I thought maybe there was a different person,
but it would be worthwhile to check it out.
Since Renee knows me mostly as Ally, she was standing by her seat screaming.   We had already discussed what would happen if
we had won anything.  I said that I would definitely take her with me if I won.  So, we went out to the GM booth to check it out.
We were the first winners at the booth.  With each person that walked up, I expected them to be Ally Miller.  Never thought that I
would win this.  Turns out, the lady who made the announcement has a friend whose name is Ally Miller, and that’s why she
said Ally not Alice.  She really scared me though.  Come on, the coincidence of it all.
Well, at this point Renee and I are both completely gone.  Someone should have videotaped us, or maybe just me.  I can laugh
about it know, but then, no way.  We had to fill out an affidavit for the picture that they take.  We had to give them permission to
post it on their website.  It was difficult filling this form out.  We were both shaking, uncontrollably.  Boy, I’m really laughing
about it now.
She lined us up into groups.  Each group had four people.  We were in the first group.  We walked down some stairs.  I wasnâ
€™t sure where we were going.  Turns out we were walking into the theater.  We walked all they way to the front, just left of the
stage.  We waited there for someone to open the door to the backstage area.  Little Tambi was the person opening the door for us.  I
said hello to him.  Apparently not loud enough though.  He didn’t say hello back.
After we walked through the door, I saw David Farmer right away.  We lined up along the backdrop for the picture.  Kenny
wasn’t there yet.  Then I heard a door open down another hallway.  When I turned my head in that direction, I saw Kenny
walking down with David.  There were other people walking with him, but I didn’t recognize them.  Now, you might think that
I took out that barf bag at this time.  Well, I did, but not to barf in.  I wanted him to sign it.  As nervous as I was, I didn’t feel
sick at this moment.  I think I was shaking too much to feel nauseous.  Renee had remarked how calm I seemed.  Meanwhile inside I
was totally losing it.
