When he finally got the guitar strap over his head, he started another song. He could hardly sing, and he
was slurring most of his words. After the second song, he tried to talk some. Kept telling us about his
new album coming out in two weeks. He didn’t play the guitar for the next song. He decided to
pick up the microphone and move about the stage. He found a spot he liked and teetered at the edge of
the stage and sang one of his many ballads. I don’t know how he didn’t fall into that crowd.
Jen and I both thought for sure he was a goner at one point. Since Jen had to be at work at 8:30 the
following morning, we had never planned to stay for his whole set, and with the condition he was in, it
made it very easy to leave. Actually, quite a few people had already left after the first time he stopped to
talk. It was really sad. I don’t know why they would let him go on stage like that. I guess no one
knew how bad off he was, and I always thought he was the tamer of the two. Oh well.
So, we left the venue at 10:20 PM. Jen slept for almost two hours while I tired to get us home as
quickly as possible. We were all the way in Jersey in an hour and 20 minutes. When she woke up at 12:
30, she couldn’t believe that we only had 6 more exits to go in Jersey. I was glad she woke up, my
eyes were starting to bug out on me. The lights can be so hypnotizing. When we got to the exit we
needed in Jersey, it took us to a bridge that crosses over the Henry Hudson River. Half over the bridge
we got stuck in traffic. It was 1:13 am, and we were stuck on a bridge. Ugh! As it turns out, the back
up was due to the tollbooths. There were only three booths where you could pay cash. All of the
others, at least 8 of them, were EZ PASS. I think they should make it mandatory with each car
registration that you have to sign up for that. I can’t tell you how many times we get stuck in traffic
because most people don’t take advantage of this. We made it to Jen’s house by 2:45 am. We
could have been there a bit sooner if not for the back up at the bridge.
All in all, it was a good trip. I now have another item that I will pack in my party box for tailgating, a
deck of cards. That game was lots of fun. I hope I didn’t beat up on the headliner too much. I donâ
€™t want to get my butt kicked, especially by his big brother. And OMG, I get to see them in just four
more days.
