I really liked the festival thing they had going for this concert. From what I've been told, it was like going to a
George Strait festival. Although, I wouldn't€™t know, my husband always said that I wasn't€™t allowed to travel
for a concert of all things. You see now who won that battle. It took a few years, but I finally got my way (12
hour drive for a concert, LOL). The security at the venue was excellent. They weren't€™t overbearing. So, I
won't€™t be referring to them as concert Nazis. They were there and did what they had to do. They were very
organized too, which was great to see. Outside the venue, on a street next to the venue, which they closed, they
had a small stage set-up that they had two artists performing on, Jimmy Wayne and Missy Gayle. There was a
beer garden, which was really cool since this was a dry venue. The venue was still dry, but you could go outside
and have your beer. As long as the beer garden was open, you could leave the venue as often as you liked to get
yourself a drink, and then go back inside the venue once you were done with your drink. There were all kinds of
food outside at the festival. It was a lot of fun. They called it "KENNY LAND".
It was difficult keeping everyone together once we got inside the venue. Everyone had a seat in a different
location. We were finally making our way to our seats. We were walking down the stairs to get to the floor
seating area when finally it happened. The skies opened up and the rain came pouring down. This was the time
when I was quite happy that I had invested in those ponchos. It worked great. Everything that I had with me
stayed dry. My never-ending supply of pictures for Kenny to autograph, my camera, film, and my new KC T-
shirt. Everything stayed dry underneath that thing. Actually, it really only rained before, during, and after Deana's
set.
Speaking of which, I finally got to see Deana's show. I thought she did a really good job. She is very sassy and
quite entertaining. I'm looking forward to the two other shows that I'll be attending while she's still touring with
Kenny. Unfortunately, we missed the first act. I really wanted to see the Warren Brothers, but we just couldn't
get to our seats quick enough.
After Deana was Keith Urban. I have to say I enjoyed his set this time much more than the last show. Most
likely because I was more familiar with him, his band (ooh his band), and his songs. He has some very talented
people in that band.
After Keith was Rascal Flatts. Not a group that I was looking forward to seeing. I had seen them two times
prior at fan fair and wasn't really impressed with them. Their set was my planned break: restroom stop,
merchandise stand stops (needed one of those big star hats, to go with that guitar I was hoping to win). When I
got back to my seat, they were still on the stage during their set. I found them somewhat entertaining, but I don't
think I would ever go out of my way to see them again.
After Rascal Flatts was BROOKS AND DUNN. Now these boys I've seen quite a few times before, and I was
really looking forward to seeing them again. They always put on a great show. Well, as long as you don't ask
my husband (can you tell he doesn't like music as much as I do?). They performed all of their big hits from the
early days and their newest single too. That Kix is just so much fun. Ronnie did his usually thing with tossing out
drumsticks, and Kix threw the hat he was wearing. What lucky fans that were able to catch those souvenirs.
They had two blow up dolls on the side of the stage for "ROCK MY WORLD, LITTLE COUNTRY GIRL". They
were huge, and they were both riding a mechanical bull.
Then their show was done, and they didn't do ONLY IN AMERICA. What a bummer, but then they came back
out and did that song for an encore. When I saw them last February, they opened with that song. I always liked
that song, but at that time, just five months after the attacks on our country, it just meant so much more. While
they sang it for this show, they had four uniformed military persons march out, salute, and leave. It was
amazing. Plus they had red, white, and blue streamers being tossed from a cannon. They also had orange and
white streamers (the Vols colors) dispersed too. It was just a total party with them on stage.
Some time between Brooks and Dunn's set and the start of Kenny's, the sun had completely disappeared from the
sky. It was dark now. All of the pictures I took while there was still some light in the sky came out really good.
Kenny's were a different story since I was in the 15th row. They weren't bad, but I gave a lot of them back to
the developer for credit.
Kenny changed his set list up a lot for this show. Now like I said, I didn't have my pen and pad, so I'm just going
by memory. He opened with LIVE THOSE SONGS and then went right into YOUNG. I could tell for the first
song that he was very nervous. You could hear it in his voice. It took a while, but by the end of the song he
seemed to have relaxed. He didn't sound so tense anymore. I can't imagine what it felt for him to be up on that
stage in that place where he had attended so many football games from such an early age. He had said during the
show that he was five the first time he saw a game there. Can you imagine what it was like for him to be the
headliner for such a huge crowd at a place where he had spent so much time as a child and when he was older
went to school there? I'm sure it was a moment that he'll always remember.
I believe after Young he sang the football song (a.k.a. NEVER GONNA FEEL THIS WAY). Thanks for singing
that by the way. I love that song. At some point in the middle of his set, the band left the stage, with the
exception of Wyatt and a crew member brought a stool for him to sit on. He sang A LOT OF THINGS
DIFFERENT. After that was done, Melvin brought an acoustic guitar as Wyatt left the stage. Kenny sang
PLEASE COME TO BOSTON all by himself with no band and no back up. Before he started to do the BOSTON
song, he mentioned that before he had an excellent band behind him, that it used to be just him on a stool with his
guitar and tip jar, but it sounded more like he said at *** bar. I was so excited from the moment Melvin brought
out the acoustic for Kenny. I knew just what that meant. It meant that I was going to see him perform that song
live for ME and 61999 other fans. I absolutely love that song, and he did a great job with it. I think it needs to be
added permanently to his set, but not at the expense of LAY YOU DOWN.
When he was done with the stool, he got the crowd going again. Mostly everyone sat down while he was on that
stool, but once that band came back out on stage, that crowd was roaring again. He did LAY YOU DOWN for
this show and what a fine job he did with it. I hope his grandma like it as much as the rest of the crowd. He is at
his finest when he performs that song. The last thing he said before he started singing LAY YOU DOWN was "IF
YOU'RE GONNA DOIT, JUST DOIT". Before too long, they all left the stage. Naturally, he was coming back.
It was just hard trying to figure out what was coming next. He didn't do the Tractor song yet or BACK WHERE I
COME FROM. Plus, he was on the radio the day before saying he had some special guests that were supposed to
be there. Well, the first song in the encore was BWICF. I've always enjoyed this song at his shows. You can tell
that it means so much to him, but to be in that stadium, with a lot of local folks, and to hear him sing it was truly
wonderful. The crowd was so into it. Of course, Peyton Manning was there and came out and sang it with him.
The crowd went nuts. Kenny was just all smiles.
After that song, Uncle Cracker came out and sang two of his songs with KC. The first being FOLLOW ME.
When someone had told me that Uncle Cracker would be there, I didn't know who he was. It was explained to
me that he did the recent remake of DRIFT AWAY. I knew that song, but I didn't know that he also sang
FOLLOW ME. I just about died. I love that song. Jen couldn't stop laughing at me. Something about him not
being what I thought. Kenny was so cute while they sang FOLLOW ME. I can't describe it, but it's embedded in
my brain. Let me just say he was really into the song. After they were done with that song, they did DRIFT
AWAY. That was really good too. It was a lot of fun watching them, especially KC.
Let's see what was after Uncle Cracker. Oh yeah, that guy Bob. You might know him more as KID ROCK. I
couldn't tell you everything they sang. I know COWBOY was in there, and I only know that from the concerts
last year during the intro. No, I'm not a big KID ROCK fan, but he was fun. The one thing I remember
specifically was Kenny sing one verse of COWBOY, the line that uses the word bi***. He didn't say that word.
He said Mother instead. There's really no way to clean up a Bob song, but he did try. KC and Bob left the stage,
as did the band. Yet, the show was still not over.
The next thing you heard was the tractor being started and the band coming back out on the stage followed
shortly by Kenny. They did the Tractor song and then went right into JACK AND DIANE. During the last song,
Peyton Manning, Kid Rock and Uncle Cracker came back out on stage. Kid Rock and Kenny went along the front
of the stage high-fiving a lot of fans. Kenny even signed a few autographs before leaving the stage.
It was a truly amazing show. I'm glad that Kenny, his booking agent and promoter were able to pull this show
off. It was a lot of fun. I sure hope that Louis Messina, the promoter, was able to keep his promise and that none
of the Neyland Stadium grass was harmed by the concert. I believe he was putting his kids up as collateral for the
grass. Oh, someone had said the radio station was instrumental at pulling this show off too. Something about
when Kenny was at the radio station last year, they asked what he would still like to do that he hadn't€™t done
yet. Kenny's answer was to play Neyland Stadium.
I'm so glad we put the effort into going. Although traveling over 24 hours in less than three days really took a toll
on me. Normally, I take off the day after a road trip too, but I wasn't able to do that this time. I had to be at
work on Monday morning after traveling over 14 hours on Sunday. I got home at 2 am and had to be at work at
7 am. Until next time, which will be Warshington.
